Before your session
To help you get the best results and the most comfortable experience:
Please allow 2-5 days of growth before your appointment. Hair should be long enough to grasp easily with tweezers (about 1/8 inch or 3mm).
Do not tweeze or wax between treatments, as this disrupts the hair's natural growth cycle, which means a longer timeline to get results. Tweezing can also gradually distort the follicle's shape, creating coarser and more firmly rooted hair. Shave or trim only!
Hydrate and moisturize! Moisturize regularly and drink plenty of water in the days/weeks leading up to your appointment. The more hydrated your skin is, the lower settings we can use. Hydrated skin responds better and heals faster.
Arrive to your appointment with clean skin: no makeup, lotion, oils, deodorant, or perfume on the treatment area. If you’re using numbing cream, please apply as directed.
Gentle exfoliation the day of or day before can make treatment easier by removing debris from the follicle openings.
Avoid harsh skincare products such as retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, and other actives for at least 3-5 days prior (longer for stronger products and prescriptions).
Eat something before your appointment. You’ll be more comfortable if you’re not also hungry!
Limit caffeine the day of your appointment and alcohol the night before, as both can increase sensitivity and dehydration.
Some people find they feel more sensitive around their menstrual cycle or estrogen shot - you’re welcome to plan around that if helpful.
If you’re sick, sunburned, or have an open wound or irritation in the area, please reschedule.
After your session
After your treatment, you may notice redness, warmth, mild swelling, or irritation for a few days, and occasionally small scabs or whiteheads. These are normal reactions to electrolysis.
Use a gentle cleanser 1–2x daily, rinse with cool water, and pat dry. Don’t scrub!
Apply aloe vera or a gentle, unscented moisturizer to the area. Avoid heavy ointments, salves, creams, and oils. A cool compress can help if the skin feels tender or warm.
Hands off! Do not touch, rub, or scratch treated areas - this slows healing and can cause irritation, infection, and scarring. If you have any scabs, let them fall off naturally.
Try to avoid direct sun exposure. Once any irritation has subsided, daily SPF will help protect the area and reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.
Avoid for 24–48 hours (or longer if sensitive):
- Makeup, perfume, or deodorant on the treated area
- Shaving closely
- Exercise, saunas, or anything that creates heat or heavy sweating
- Immersion in pools, hot tubs, open water, or bathtubs (showering is fine!)
- Tight or friction-causing clothing on the area
Avoid for at least a week or more:
- Active skincare ingredients such as AHAs/BHAs, retinoids, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, vitamin C, tretinoin, or other scrubs/exfoliating agents
- Additional treatments like peels, facials, laser, or dermaplaning
Don’t tweeze or wax between appointments. Shaving or trimming is fine.
Electrolysis is a team effort! You know your body and skin best, and taking great care of your skin helps us achieve the results you deserve.
Oh, and electrolysis can be stressful on the body and even bring up hard emotions sometimes - so have a treat after your appointment!
